How JQuery is Replaced with Vue.js

What is JQuery?

JQuery is one of the most used and extendable JavaScript libraries. The main principle of JQuery is known commonly as “Write less, Do more.” Many prominent organizations use JQuery for their website optimization like Goggle, Microsoft, IBM, and Netflix. The benefit of using JQuery is to optimize the use of JavaScript on websites. It helps to wrap up numerous lines of code into a simple task for a better experience. It helps to simplify complicated JavaScript tasks such as DOM manipulation and AJAX calls. The JQuery library consists of various essential features like HTML and CSS manipulation, HTML event methods, effects and animations, and utilities. Moreover, JQuery provides a wide range of plugins for various tasks to accomplish.

How JQuery is Replaced with Vue.js

What is Vue.js?

Vue.js is a developing JavaScript framework that consists of an open-source model-view-viewmodel software architectural pattern. The developers use it to develop interactive website interfaces. Moreover, it helps in building user interfaces and single-page applications. It lays its focus more on the front end part. The most important part about this framework is that it easily integrates with other projects and libraries.

Moreover, Vue.js allows extending HTML with its attributes known as directives. These directives allow functionalities to HTML applications. Vue.js allows both built-in and user-defined directives. The developers also use this framework for desktop and mobile application development using the Electron framework. However, they mainly use Vue to design user interfaces such as declarative UI, time travel debugging, and components.

Need for Replacement of JQuery with Vue.js

Vue.js is as easy to incorporate in the developing projects as the incorporation of JQuery. There is no need for the build step while the incorporation of Vue.js. Sometimes, there is no need to set up an entire build system for small abstractions. There might be a case of extra time and effort wastage on moving a project over to a build system and using different deployment methods. Therefore, using Vue.js instead of Jquery where no build step is necessary looks like an optimal option. Vue.js is flexible because it is used directly in HTML. There is no need to rewrite the whole HTML in JavaScript, use webpack, and no extensive building system is needed.

Replacing JQuery with Vue.js

As explained earlier, replacing JQuery with Vue.js is not a complex task. The flexibility of Vue.js allows its direct replacement in HTML code. For example, a simple code including JQuery in HTML is following:

<main>
            <div class=”random”>
            <p> this is for practice </p>
            </div>
</main>
<script src=”https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.2.1/jquery.min.js”>
</script>
<script>
            // JQuery code
</script>

The above code indicates that this page structure involves working with JQuery code in the script tag. However, this can be easily changed by replacing it with Vue.Js code. A simple example of doing so is following:

<main>
<div class=”random”>
<p> this is for practice </p>
</div>
</main>
<script src=”https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/vue/2.5.3/vue.min.js”>
</script>
<script>
// Vue code
</script>

The above code displays the simple replacement of JQuery with Vue. The only difference here is occurring the change in the script tag. The developers can easily use the rest of the HTML and JavaScript code with Vue. There is no need to rewrite the entire code again. The replacement does not raise any complexity or issues in the overall understanding of the code. On the other hand, Vue is relatively simple and easy to maintain and adapt. Moreover, both frameworks are comparable in size for the developers to use them in a CDN form.

Example

Another typical example of using JavaScript with HTML is taking user input while filling a form. Following is a simple example of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code for capturing a user name in the form while using JQuery.

This is the simple HTML code for visualization of name input:

<div id="test">
<label for="user">Name:</label>
<input id="user" type="text" />
<p class="username"></p>
</div>

This is the CSS code to align the declared div:

#test {
Margin: 50 px;
}

Following is the JavaScript code including JQuery which is used to store the captured input from the user in the form:

$(function() {
$('#test').keyup(function(e) {
var username = $(this).find('.username');
var n_input = $(this).find('#user').val();
username.empty();
username.append(n_input);
});
});

Similarly, there is a simple code example for the same input of name by a user. The difference here is that this practice uses the Vue.js framework instead of JQuery. Here is an example to compare both jquery and Vue’s methods of capturing input.

Following is the HTML code for the purpose:

<div id="test">
<label for="name">Name:</label>
<input id="name" type="text" v-model="name" />
<p>{{ name }}</p>
</div>
The CSS code used above is the same for Vue also. The JavaScript code used for Vue is following:
new Vue({
el: '#test',
data: {
name: ''
}
})

The above code shows a Vue instance for the input. This example explains that the Vue framework has more strength than JQuery in handling the HTML code. The Vue framework is more reactive and adapts quick responsiveness to changes. It handles the input changes without any delays. Another critical factor here is DOM manipulation. While dealing with JQuery, the DOM has control.

It stores variables, and developers fetch things out of it and respond to it later on. Therefore, any change in HTML structure will force the developer to adapt the rest of the code according to that. However, in the case of Vue, the track of an element is recorded by a directive. This directive binds the HTML element directly, which the developers want to track down. Here the data is stored using the v-model, and any change with the DOM or HTML will not affect the variable. Therefore, Vue is more suitable for such situations than JQuery.

Why Vue.js instead of Jquery?

Although JQuery and Vue both are valuable and open-source, there are some differences between them. Vue.js can be used as an integration tool with other JavaScript libraries and is incredibly adaptive. On the other hand, JQeury is a cross-platform JavaScript library that simplifies the client-side scripting of HTML. Vue.js has proven to resolve several challenges encountered with JQuery. Following are some of the challenges that Vue has overcome in comparison to JQuery:

Encapsulation

The developers reduce the complexity created by giving control to DOM by using Vue. This framework provides encapsulation which allows DOM manipulation easily. The Vue’s lifecycle hooks help in controlling the code when complexity occurs.

Counter Problem Solved

This framework allows creating a link between the data property counter and the DOM node where it renders. There is no need for the mental DOM, and any update with the counter will not create a situation of selecting an incorrect node to raise the complexity.

No Ambiguous API functionality

The need for resolving ambiguous API methods is not needed while using Vue.js. If there is a need for any functionality, the Vue constructor object quickly sorts the matter. Another method is to apply it directly to DOM element nodes in the template. The Vue directives are helpful when a situation like this occurs.
